The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has issued its annual Legislative Report Card. Congressman Cohen outscored the rest of the Tennessee Congressional Delegation, receiving an “A” grade.

The NAACP rated members of the US Congress based on their voting records with regard to issues such as the expansion of Hate Crime laws, increasing the Minimum Wage, the expansion of small business loan programs, providing post-Katrina housing assistance, reauthorizing Head Start, putting economic pressure on the Sudanese government to stop the massacre in Darfur, supporting organized labor, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) — all of which Congressman Cohen supported.

“As a Lifetime Member of the NAACP, I have supported the goals and aspirations of this organization throughout my 26-year legislative career,” said Congressman Cohen.  “(NAACP Chairman) Julian Bond and I have been friends for years, and we have very similar political philosophies that I am proud to espouse in my role as Representative for the 9th District of Tennessee.”

“The NAACP has done an excellent job of cultivating a legislative plan of action that benefits the people of Memphis,” continued Congressman Cohen.  “I will continue to work with the NAACP to ensure their ability to advance their cause in the U.S. Congress.”
