Cohen to Decline Federal Salary During Trump Shutdown

Congressman Steve Cohen contacted the House of Representatives Chief Administrative Officer in writing to decline his salary for the duration of the shutdown.
“Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District is home to thousands of dedicated federal employees who work every day to keep our country safe, healthy, and moving forward. These public servants will not receive their paycheck due to no fault of their own,” Cohen wrote. “I have made the decision not to accept my pay while so many of my constituents are left in uncertainty. Until the government is reopened, I respectfully request that my pay be withheld.”
House and Senate Democrats insist that, with Open Renewal starting next month, the Affordable Care Act subsidies, currently set to expire in December, be extended to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare due to rising costs.
